The Elder Scrolls Online adds solo versions of Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices on October 21, 2026. You can bring a Companion, choose optional difficulty modifiers and earn rewards made for the solo encounters. ZeniMax's October 17 preview explains how the redesign changes fights originally built for a group.

Two familiar dungeons with different encounters

The solo dungeon preview names Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices as the first pair. The developers have changed mechanics and enemy abilities to suit one player. Companions are part of that redesign: some mechanics specifically target them. You can therefore bring a Companion without treating it as an accidental workaround.

Start with the default solo experience if you want to follow the stories. The designers say a typical overland build should be suitable without additional modifiers. That is guidance about the intended starting difficulty, rather than a promise that every character will complete every fight. Your equipment and familiarity with your abilities still affect the experience.

For returning players, these are separate versions of existing dungeons. Take time to read the changed encounters and see how your Companion handles them before raising the difficulty.

Difficulty modifiers change the preparation

At the entrance, a pile of weapons and armour lets you activate Meted Misfortunes. These are optional effects that make the run harder. Warm Welcome, for example, doubles incoming damage. Activating a modifier also raises the broader difficulty, increasing enemy statistics and allowing monsters and bosses to use more abilities.

Up to three modifiers can be active together, reaching the Dauntless difficulty. The developers recommend reconsidering your build as you add them. A setup that comfortably clears the basic version may need more protection for a modifier that increases damage taken.

Our suggestion is to learn the unmodified version first, then add a challenge you can explain and prepare for. That approach gives you a clearer idea of why a run became difficult. Higher difficulty increases several rewards, but a failed attempt still costs your playing time.

What you earn from solo runs

Solo dungeons introduce Undaunted Crests, with larger amounts at higher difficulties. Spend them with Veya Thenim at an Undaunted Enclave. Her rewards include Cultivated Cryptpod alchemical reagents and style materials.

The preview also describes two new monster sets. Their masks drop from final bosses, while Veya Thenim supplies the shoulders. Other rewards include style pages, bust and trophy furnishings, Nowhere Keys and legendary Companion equipment for chest and two-handed melee slots. Check the item you want before deciding which difficulty is worth repeating.

These dungeon rewards are separate from Season Two's Tamriel Tome. The October 16 Tome preview lists 8,000 Seals and 9,000 Trade Bars among the free track's rewards, alongside collectibles. Those are rewards to unlock through the Tome, not a currency grant for entering a dungeon or signing in on launch day.

Dates and free access to keep straight

The October survival guide schedules Wolfhunter's move into the base game for October 19. The October 17 solo-dungeon preview repeats that date. Solo versions follow on October 21, when Season Two begins. Owning the base game remains necessary; free access to this content does not make ESO itself a free game.

The season overview runs through January 27, 2027. Its free Tome lasts for the season, while purchased premium Tomes have no completion time limit. The Tamriel Tomes guide explains the progression system if you are returning after a break. For background on the event that preceded this season, see our High Seas of Tamriel rewards article.

Decide whether your first visit is for the story or for a particular item. Inspect the reward vendor before choosing a difficulty for repeat runs. You can work towards harder versions once you know which rewards you want.
