To defeat a Mark while The Hunt is active in Fortnite Reload, you need a Nitemare Island match in which the modifier has actually activated, then eliminate the player assigned as your Mark. Epic says The Hunt only has a chance to occur when you drop onto that island. Joining Reload, fighting Kado Thorne or eliminating an unrelated opponent does not by itself satisfy that description.

Check the modifier before chasing the objective
Epic's Reload update describes The Hunt as a match modifier tied to Nitemare Island: Kado's Curse. When it activates, a Mark is assigned after landing from the Battle Bus. The crucial check is whether the game has assigned that target in your current match. A general Halloween setting is not enough to establish that the modifier is running.
If you are following an objective that uses the wording "defeat a Mark while The Hunt match modifier is active," read the current objective in your own Quests panel before queueing. It may contain a count or eligibility detail relevant to your account. The public mode announcement explains the mechanic; it does not publish every version of the quest, its XP amount or an account-specific progress total.
If you have landed on another Reload island, or have no assigned Mark, use the match for normal play rather than assuming that every elimination will advance this particular task. Wait until the mode presents the required condition before pursuing the objective deliberately.
Follow the assigned opponent, then recheck it
The Hunt gives players the general vicinity of their opponent. That is an area to search, not a promise of a precise position at every moment. Treat the information as a reason to plan an approach while still checking the terrain, nearby fights and your own position. Rushing directly into a crowded area can leave you fighting someone other than the intended player.
Epic also says a new Mark is assigned at the start of each new Storm Circle. Recheck the assignment when the circle changes. Continuing to chase the previous opponent can waste time if that player is no longer the target the modifier has given you. Your current match information is more useful here than a route copied from a video recorded in somebody else's game.
When a Mark is eliminated, Kado grants a reward of his choosing. Epic's announcement does not provide a fixed reward table for each elimination. It would therefore be misleading to promise one particular item from completing a hunt. The named cosmetic rewards elsewhere in the update follow their own rules.
Keep Kado, ranked rewards and the quest separate
Kado Thorne can be found inside Terror Turrets, but Epic describes him as a character you can interact with to learn about the island. The assigned Mark is the opponent selected by The Hunt. Visiting the character is a different action from eliminating that opponent.
The wider update also includes ranked cosmetics and refreshed Map Mastery quests. Those systems should be checked through their own requirements. A successful hunt does not automatically demonstrate that you reached a particular ranked tier or completed the full set of cosmetic objectives. Our Reload island and rewards overview covers that wider context.
The Fortnitemares announcement spans Battle Royale, Horde Rush and Reload. Use Epic's Reload mode page to identify the intended experience rather than a similarly named community island.
What to record if progress still does not move
If you believe the conditions were met, keep the exact quest wording and note which map and modifier were active. Check progress after the match and record whether the opponent was your current Mark. Those details give Epic Support a more useful description than saying that an elimination did not count.
This is a troubleshooting checklist, not evidence of a confirmed tracking bug. The official sources cited here do not establish a universal fix, a guaranteed credit delay or an alternative method that bypasses the assigned target. Avoid spending currency or installing third-party tools to solve a quest-progress problem.
