Jin Sakai's return in Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted brings familiar stances into a combat system that behaves differently from Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch's November 4 breakdown explains how his parry perks and Quickfire follow-ups were adapted, giving returning players a better starting point than expecting every old habit to transfer unchanged.
Most Wanted is a replayable combat survival mode included with Complete Edition or its upgrade. The November breakdown explains his existing playable role in that mode; Atsu remains the main story’s protagonist.
Rethink what a successful parry does
Sucker Punch's combat breakdown distinguishes Parry Deflect from Parry Interrupt in Yōtei. That distinction did not exist in the same way in Tsushima, where a well-timed Block could immediately interrupt enemy combinations.
Jin's Rattling Parry perk increases the Stagger damage from successful parries. The developer says this makes Parry Interrupt occur more often. If you are building around parries, read that effect as a way to create interruptions through Stagger rather than assuming that every successful defence has the same outcome.
The article also describes perks that encourage Perfect Parry, but supplies no universal timing window or complete perk-ranking table. Start by learning what your selected perk says and watching the result of a successful defence. A familiar character model does not remove the need to learn the newer game's responses.
Connect Quickfire with the melee action after it
Jin retains the ability to move between katana stances and scrappier tools such as Quickfire. Empowering Quickfire rewards following a Quickfire action with melee. That makes the follow-up part of the decision, rather than treating the first attack as the entire exchange.
Before spending a tool during a run, think about whether you can safely reach the next melee opportunity. The developer describes the follow-up but gives no numerical damage bonus in this breakdown. Leave enough room to make that next melee action safely.
The official mode trailer provides broader context for Most Wanted's combat runs:
The trailer is an introduction to the mode, not a step-by-step unlock route for every character. Check the character requirements within your own game before expecting Jin to be selectable immediately on a new save.
His familiar animations were rebuilt for a different system
The team adapted more than 60 attack animations, many with their own kill animations, to Yōtei's rig and combat balance. Stone Stance's Piercing Strike was too powerful in its original implementation, according to the developer. Its presence here does not mean the original move's balance carried across untouched.
New strafe animations support the Focus Attack model, while familiar gestures and idle actions help the character remain recognisable. Those details explain why Jin can look familiar while still requiring adjustments to how you move, defend and choose perks during a run.
The audio team also rebuilt movement sounds for the newer animation system, and Daisuke Tsuji returned to voice Jin. His familiar voice and movement help connect the character to Tsushima while the combat rules belong to Most Wanted.
Sucker Punch shared the new behind-the-scenes article through its official account:
Confirm mode access before buying another edition
The current PlayStation product page places Most Wanted in Complete Edition and the Complete Edition Upgrade. It lists an internet connection, a PlayStation account and patch 2.0 or later for downloading the additional content. Installing a patch and owning the required content are separate checks.
For existing owners, look at the upgrade rather than assuming you need to buy the whole game again. Our Complete Edition guide explains the split between additions and the broader update. Confirm the current checkout details for your region before purchasing.
Once you have access, use a few runs to judge one interaction at a time. Try a parry-focused choice and watch whether you are actually creating interruptions, then examine a Quickfire-to-melee follow-up. Watch those interactions in your own runs before deciding which perks you prefer.
