Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered reaches PS5 on November 3, updating the 2002 arena fighter with a revised unlock system and online multiplayer. Before choosing a monster, check the player counts: the US PS Store lists up to four local players, while online matches support up to two and require PlayStation Plus.

For a first match, Heisei Godzilla is a sensible starting point. Sony's November 2 fighter guide describes high starting health and balanced stats, giving you room to learn how movement, energy attacks and grabs interact before committing to a more specialised kaiju.

Learn one balanced monster before choosing a specialist

The official fighter guide makes the two Godzillas useful reference points. Heisei has approachable melee combinations and a wake-up tail strike, but his high-energy pulse charges slowly. Opponents can punish that preparation, so a large attack still needs a good opening.

Godzilla 2000 is faster and somewhat less strong, with another fairly balanced moveset. Try the pair against the same opponent before deciding which you prefer. That comparison can help you feel whether you value movement or extra staying power without immediately learning an entirely different fighting style.

This is starting advice based on the published character descriptions, rather than a competitive tier list. Your timing and the opposing monster will affect how well that choice works. A specialist becomes easier to evaluate once you know which situations make your balanced character uncomfortable.

Pick speed or reach for a specific reason

Gigan suits players who want to close in quickly. Teleportation adds reach and evasive options, while his hooked attacks support aggressive pressure. The tradeoff is vulnerability to energy attacks, so repeatedly rushing a ranged opponent along the same route can still go badly.

Rodan offers even greater speed and aerial mobility, paired with the roster's weakest defence in Sony's description. Use that movement to leave an exchange as well as enter it. Choosing him because he is fast will feel different from surviving with him after an opponent catches your landing.

If you prefer controlling space, King Ghidorah brings projectiles and an airborne lightning attack without a charge. His energy-draining flight and weak close-range tools make distance important. Orga solves the opposite problem with long-reaching grabs, although a fast opponent or resistance to blunt attacks can make those approaches awkward.

Watch energy before choosing a heavy fighter

Destoroyah brings powerful mid-range attacks, including some unblockable energy options. Those abilities consume substantial energy, and slow movement becomes a problem when the resources for them run down. Save enough energy to use those attacks when an opening appears.

Mechagodzilla also depends on energy for flight and much of his ranged arsenal. Kiryu offers a more balanced alternative with a substantial weapons focus. Mecha-King Ghidorah adds draining projectiles, a shield and useful grappling, but still needs energy for important tools and remains slow.

Anguirus offers a different defensive approach. His rear spines damage an opponent attacking his block, and the guide highlights his durability and grappling. The turning animation makes that block slow, while limited long-range options mean you still need a plan for getting close. You will still have to move into grabbing range.

Separate couch multiplayer from online play

The US PS Store listing gives one to four players locally and up to two online. PlayStation Plus is required for online play, which is optional. Do not buy a second copy expecting a four-player online session simply because the local player count reaches four.

The remaster includes eight locations with day and night variants, environmental objects that can be used during combat, and additional single-player campaigns for each kaiju. Its improved unlock system lets players choose the order of monsters, locations and gallery items. You can work toward the fighter you want rather than assuming a fixed sequence.
