Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux have received their next-gen update, with native support for current PlayStation and Xbox consoles and a separate set of PC improvements. Before returning to an old save, check which store version you own: Deep Silver specifically warns that Microsoft Store saves do not carry over to the upgraded version.

The update is free for existing owners on the supported platforms listed by the publisher. It improves the Redux games; it is not a free copy of a new Metro title or a promise that every system uses the same graphics settings.

Check the Microsoft Store save warning first

Deep Silver's platform patch notes recommend a New Game start for the upgraded Microsoft Store version because saves do not carry over. Chapter select is unlocked with the chapters available to start using default equipment. That is a way to choose a chapter, not a transfer of your old inventory and progress.

The warning is labelled for the Microsoft Store version only. It should not be expanded into a claim that every Steam, PlayStation or Xbox player loses saves. The separate fixes for save reliability and cloud syncing do not cancel that store-specific warning.

If you have an older playthrough you want to preserve, identify the store and edition before launching the upgrade. Keep any existing backup available and read the version-specific instructions before replacing files. We have not tested a save migration, so no workaround is presented here as a verified transfer method.

Which consoles have the 120 FPS option?

The notes list true 4K at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K at 120 FPS for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, with compatible display hardware required. PS5 Pro also has PSSR support, while DualSense adaptive triggers are among the PlayStation additions.

On Xbox, the 120 FPS entry specifically names Series X. Do not infer the same option for Series S from a general Series X|S heading. The platform section also lists spatial audio, 4A TSR upscaling and antialiasing, Xbox Play Anywhere support and controller impulse triggers.

These are the publisher's supported modes, rather than our benchmark results. A screen that cannot display the higher refresh rate will not gain that capability from the software update. Check the console's display settings and the game's available options on your own setup.

PC features and fixes go beyond a frame-rate limit

The PC section covers Steam, Epic and GOG and lists an uncapped frame rate dependent on hardware, plus 4A TSR, NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR support. An uncapped setting is not a promised FPS result. The published notes do not provide a performance table for your particular processor and graphics card.

The update also addresses high-frame-rate bugs, missing display resolutions, controller detection and mouse sensitivity problems. Other listed fixes cover chapter transitions, loading screens and checkpoints created with too little gas-mask filter time. These are specific fixes described by Deep Silver, rather than proof that every old bug is gone.

4A Games' launch post describes the return to both Redux games and links to the publisher's fuller list. The earlier eligibility announcement gives October 22 for PC and October 29 for consoles and names the supported storefronts. Check that list if you own the games on another platform.

Account linking offers a comic, not a guaranteed new game

Deep Silver says linking an account in Metro 2033 Redux, Metro Last Light Redux or Metro Exodus unlocks an exclusive comic. Follow the in-game QR route to the account sign-in if you want that optional extra, and confirm the destination before entering account details.

The same promotion includes competition entries for Metro 2039. An entry is a chance to win under separate terms, not ownership of the game. This article does not enter the competition, sign you up to a newsletter or assess eligibility in every country.

Our No Man's Sky Forsaken guide also separates a main release from its platform-specific patch rollout. In Metro, start with the store-specific save note, then choose a graphics mode your hardware supports before continuing a campaign.
