Monster Hunter Wilds comes to Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, about 21 months after it launched on PS5, Xbox Series and PC on February 28, 2025. The Standard Edition costs $39.99 in the US, and digital pre-orders open October 19 at a $29.99 introductory price. Capcom and Nintendo have also confirmed that the Ascendance expansion follows on Switch 2 in 2027.

Editions and prices

Nintendo's US store page lists the Standard Edition at $39.99 for December 4. Capcom's announcement, as Gematsu reproduced it, adds a $79.99 Gold Edition on the eShop that bundles the base game with a cosmetic DLC collection, plus a physical Deluxe Edition at $39.99 that includes a Deluxe Pack voucher. All prices are US MSRP. In Japan, Capcom's site shows the Standard Edition at 4,990 yen with an early purchase price of 3,742 yen, so the discount there is about a quarter off.

The physical Deluxe Edition is a game-key card, according to Capcom's Switch 2 page. The card holds a download key rather than the game itself, so you still need storage and a connection. Nintendo's store page estimates the download at 39.1 GB.

When the $29.99 price ends

Digital pre-orders open on October 19 at 17:00 PT, which is October 20 at 00:00 UTC and 01:00 BST. Capcom's own Switch 2 pages give the date as October 20, the same moment seen from outside the Americas. Nintendo's store page was not yet taking pre-orders on October 3 and showed only the $39.99 regular price.

The end of the $29.99 price is where the sources split. Capcom's announcement text, as Gematsu printed it, says the promotion ends on December 3, 2026, the day before launch. RPG Site gives December 19. Capcom's own English, British, French, German and Japanese Switch 2 pages say the pre-order discount runs until January 7, 2027, but they list no US price and send readers to the store page for the offer period. Capcom's announcement and its regional pages therefore disagree, and Nintendo has not yet published the offer on the eShop. Pre-ordering on opening day avoids the question, because the price is $10 below the standard $39.99 whichever date turns out to be right.

What the Switch 2 version includes

Per Gematsu, quoting Capcom, the port has local wireless play with other Switch 2 players and full cross-play online. It ships with every Title Update to date, including the Grand Hub, returning monsters such as Lagiacrus and the Final Fantasy XIV Online collaboration. A free Prologue Demo is planned before launch. Full Cleared says Capcom has not shared resolution or frame rate targets.

Existing players should read Capcom's voucher note. Character Edit and Palico Edit Vouchers are not sold on Switch 2, and you start with 10 of each instead. Capcom lists the Guild Knight layered armor and the Hope Charm talisman as the general pre-order bonus.

Console bundles in Japan and Singapore

Nintendo's Singapore news page, dated October 2, announces a Nintendo Switch 2 + Monster Hunter Wilds bundle launching December 4. It contains the console, a full-game download, a three-month Nintendo Switch Online individual membership and the Guild Knight armor and Hope Charm as a purchase bonus. The game download needs a Nintendo Account set to Singapore. The page shows no price.

Japan has its own domestic-only bundle. Nintendo Japan lists it at 61,980 yen including tax (roughly $400) for December 4, with light blue and light red Joy-Con 2 controllers and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online ticket. Siliconera, writing on September 15, reports that pre-orders were listed at Capcom's online store, Nintendo Store Japan and Amazon Japan, and that no bundle had been announced elsewhere. Nintendo's US page shows none.

Ascendance is coming to Switch 2 in 2027

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the paid expansion, is coming to Switch 2 in 2027. Nintendo said so in its September 9 Direct recap, and Capcom's Ascendance site lists Nintendo Switch 2 beside PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. No date or price has been announced. A copy of Monster Hunter Wilds is required to play it.

Which version to buy

Players who already own the game elsewhere get portable play and local wireless from the Switch 2 version, and little else, since purchases are tied to each platform's store. Anyone without a Switch 2 can only buy the console at its normal price in the US, because no US bundle has been announced. Buyers of the physical edition should plan around the game-key card and its download. For more Monster Hunter before December, Monster Hunter Outlanders is due on phones this month.
