Xbox Free Play Days: Wuchang and Halloween Trials

Xbox Free Play Days offers four member games for October 29-November 1: WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, Darkwood, Spirittea and EVERSPACE 2. Dead by Daylight has a separate console trial through November 2 that does not require Game Pass.

The four member games require Game Pass Ultimate, Premium or Essential. Spirittea and EVERSPACE 2 also have PC access in this promotion. Check the platform and account entitlement before downloading, because the games do not all have identical access conditions.

Choose the right membership offer

The Xbox Wire announcement splits its lineup into member trials and a Free Play Days for All section. Dead by Daylight is in the latter. Players interested only in that trial should check the free option before buying a subscription for the weekend.

On console, Xbox directs players to the Store's Subscriptions tab and its Free Play Days collection. You can also follow the game links from the announcement while signed in to the account that will play. Look for the trial or included access option, rather than assuming a displayed purchase price is necessary to start.

These are time-limited ways to play. Downloading the files does not turn a trial into permanent ownership. After promotional access ends, continued play requires a purchase or another valid entitlement. A game being available through a different subscription offer is a separate access question.

Dead by Daylight runs on a separate schedule

Xbox lists November 2 as the end date for Dead by Daylight's console trial. Its announcement uses October 28 in the introduction and October 29 in the individual game section for the start, so the regional store's live trial listing is the practical place to check availability. Neither sentence supplies a precise universal closing hour.

Behaviour's official account also promotes free trials on Xbox and PlayStation, asking players to check platform stores for the dates and details. This post covers both platforms; the four-game member list in this article concerns Xbox's event.

The Xbox post describes Haunted by Daylight activity alongside the trial. Event rewards, base-game access and separately sold content are different things. A free base-game trial should not be read as including every licensed character, cosmetic or expansion in the store.

Four member games offer different kinds of play

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is the action-RPG option, set in a troubled late-Ming-era land where a mysterious illness produces monstrous enemies. Darkwood takes a survival-horror approach, with daytime scavenging and preparation for the night. Choose WUCHANG for action combat or Darkwood for scavenging and fortifying a hideout.

Spirittea is a gentler alternative. Its premise has you helping troublesome spirits and restoring a bathhouse so they can become customers. Xbox lists this game for both console and PC during the event. It offers a quieter premise if you would rather skip the horror games.

EVERSPACE 2 is the space-combat choice. Its Steam description describes a single-player space shooter with exploration, loot and puzzles. That page explains the game; it is not evidence of a Steam free weekend. The temporary PC access discussed here comes from Xbox's promotion.

The developer's console launch trailer shows EVERSPACE 2's combat and exploration, rather than this weekend's membership terms:

Before committing to a large download

Start with the game you can realistically play before its trial closes. Check the supported device on the store listing, available storage and the remaining access window. A long download can consume much of a short session, especially if you try to install the whole lineup at once.

Xbox says players who buy a game can retain the Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event. Discounts and availability can vary by game and region, so use the price shown on your own account. The free-play period and a sale's end date should not be assumed to match.

For a different subscription programme, our PlayStation monthly-games guide explains adding monthly titles. That library benefit works differently from this dated Xbox trial event.
