Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 with 33 weapons and 33 Operators available at launch. The October 19 Call of Duty Blog post also explains when loadout customization opens, how attachments carry across compatible weapons and which unlocks belong to Multiplayer, DMZ or a later Warzone integration.
The official Call of Duty launch guide goes beyond a list of names. It outlines unlock criteria, loadout tools and how progression differs between Multiplayer and DMZ. PlayStation's launch overview confirms the three modes arrive on October 23.
The launch roster has 33 weapons
Activision says MW4 launches with 33 weapons on October 23. The guide groups the roster into primary weapons, secondary weapons and melee, then lists the weapon unlock requirements and stats. Multiplayer customization becomes available at player level 4. Before that, players choose from preset Default Loadouts.
Attachments unlock once, then become available on every compatible weapon. Players do not need to unlock a duplicate attachment separately for each supported gun. Compatibility still depends on the weapon.
The official article also introduces Gunny, an Attachment Optimizer, and a Firing Range. Those tools sit alongside Gunsmith, where players can tune a weapon and view its progression. The source explains the options but does not claim that one build is best for every mode or map.
Operators are assigned per loadout
The game launches with 33 Operators across Multiplayer and DMZ. The new Create-a-Class setup lets players assign an individual Operator to each loadout. Some Operators are available right away; others require an in-game challenge or come as a pre-order or Vault Edition incentive.
The selected character can vary with the loadout a player brings into a match. If you have been comparing editions, check the contents against the Operator or item you want. The official guide separates progression unlocks from preorder and Vault Edition items.
Multiplayer and DMZ share weapon progress
The Call of Duty guide says weapons and attachments unlocked or leveled in Multiplayer or DMZ can be used in the other mode. DMZ also has its own purchase and looting rules. At the Forward Operating Base Gunsmith, players can buy an unlocked weapon or attachment with DMZ Cash, while weapons can also be found in a deployment or built using a Weapon Manual.
The mode boundaries matter for launch planning. DMZ access and Multiplayer loadouts are part of the October 23 release. Warzone content integration is scheduled for Season 1 later in 2026, so players should not assume Warzone's full MW4 integration arrives on day one.
Our Modern Warfare 4 DMZ guide covers extraction, Operators and the Forward Operating Base. The separate Campaign early access guide explains the preorder window before launch.
Check the platform listing before buying
The PlayStation Store lists the PS5 release for October 23 and the Standard Edition at $69.99 in the US store. Prices and edition contents vary by platform and region, so those figures are not a global price quote. Check the current PlayStation Store listing for the edition available to your account.
The launch details give players a useful prep list: reach level 4 to open Create-a-Class, decide which mode to start with and keep in mind that attachments can carry over between compatible weapons. If you are choosing a preorder edition, compare its named bonuses with the official unlock guide before paying extra.
The roster size also gives players room to try different roles at launch, but it does not make the weapon list a ranked recommendation. Activision's guide is a catalog of available weapons, Operators and progression rules. Players looking for a specific gun should use the listed unlock path, then check its Gunsmith options and compatible attachments in the mode they plan to play.
Activision's separate progression and Prestige guide explains the later leveling path. At level 55, players can choose Classic Prestige, which resets level unlocks in exchange for rewards, or Regular Prestige, which restarts progression while keeping unlocked content. This is separate from unlocking the launch roster and loadout tools.
