A code or link that fails tells you something, but the message is not always the same thing. "Already used", "invalid" and "expired" can mean three different situations, and the fix for each one is different. The platforms that issue these rewards publish their own rules, so the fastest check is to read the message against those rules.

Bingo Blitz: read the message first

The Bingo Blitz support article on freebies gives two messages and what they mean. An already-clicked message means that freebie has been used before, since each one can be collected once. The article then tells you to check when the link was posted, because freebies are available only for a limited time. The page does not give a fixed lifetime, so the posting date is the clue to work from.

A separate message appears when a PLUS group freebie is collected without an active PLUS subscription. That one is a subscription problem, not an expiry problem, and a new link will not fix it. The full rules for Bingo Blitz links are in our guide to how Bingo Blitz freebie links work.

Steam gifts have a 30-day acceptance window

Steam's gifts article gives the clearest deadline of the four platforms covered here. After a gift is delivered to the recipient, they have 30 days to accept it. Once accepted, the game is permanently added to the account that redeemed it. If the recipient takes no action for 30 days, Steam cancels the gift purchase and refunds the buyer to the original payment method.

The same article covers scheduled gifts. The buyer can schedule delivery up to 12 months from the purchase date and change the delivery date from the Steam Inventory, where scheduled gifts stay until they are delivered. If a recipient declines a gift, the article says the purchase is refunded automatically to the buyer.

A refund can also be requested in some cases. The article says a refund may be issued for a gift purchased within fourteen days that the recipient has played for less than two hours. A gift that has not been redeemed can be refunded through the Help site. A redeemed gift needs the recipient to approve the refund first.

Steam keys: duplicate and invalid errors mean different things

Steam's retail CD keys article separates two registration errors. An "Invalid Product Code" error means Steam does not recognise the key. Either the key is not meant for Steam, or it has been typed wrong. The article lists common look-alike mix-ups, such as the number 0 for the letter Q, D or O, the number 1 for I or L, and B for 8. If the key still fails, the article says to contact the retailer.

A duplicate product code error means the key has already been tied to a Steam account and cannot be registered again. If you believe you registered it before, the article points to the Steam Help site for recovering a lost account. If you are sure you never registered it successfully, the article says to contact the retailer where you bought the game to request a new copy.

PlayStation Plus monthly games have add-by dates

PlayStation's October blog post gives the window for the current set: the October Monthly Games are available to PlayStation Plus members from Tuesday, October 6 until Monday, November 2. The same post lists a separate deadline for the September set. Members had until Monday, October 5 to add those titles to their game libraries.

The post also warns that the lineup may differ by region, and that PlayStation Plus is a recurring subscription that renews until it is cancelled. If a monthly game from a previous set is missing from your library, check the add-by date for that set before you assume a fault. For the current lineup, see our PS Plus October 2026 games post, and for the steps to add monthly games, read how to claim PlayStation Plus monthly games.

What to do when the rule says it has ended

Once the platform's own rule says a claim has closed, the realistic options are narrow. For a Steam gift, the buyer can check the refund route in the gifts article. For a Steam key, the duplicate error points to account recovery or the retailer. For a Bingo Blitz freebie, the support ticket route is the only official channel the article describes.

Be wary of anyone offering a "new" version of an expired code. The publisher or platform issues each code, so a site that claims to have a fresh one is guessing or lying. The safety checklist in how to redeem game codes safely covers what to do next.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to accept a Steam gift?

Steam's gifts article says the recipient has 30 days after delivery to accept. If there is no action in that time, Steam cancels the purchase and refunds the buyer.

What does a duplicate product code error mean on Steam?

The key is already tied to a Steam account and cannot be registered again. Use the Steam Help site if you think it was yours, or contact the retailer if you never registered it.

Why is a PlayStation Plus monthly game missing from my library?

Each set has an add-by date. PlayStation's blog gave October 5 for the September set, and the lineup may differ by region, so check the date for that set first.

Does a bad link mean the game is broken?

Not necessarily. The Bingo Blitz support article says the already-clicked message means the freebie was used before, and the PLUS message is about subscription status.
