Pokémon Pokopia's Halloween event lets you befriend Pumpkaboo, earn pumpkin candy by surprising other Pokémon, and use seasonal decor to attract Gourgeist. Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises runs until November 1, 2026, at 4:59 a.m. local time. If the visitor has not appeared, check your town progress and update version before trying again.
AT A GLANCE
- Event window Oct 17, 5:00 a.m. to Nov 1, 4:59 a.m. local time
- Game Pokémon Pokopia on Nintendo Switch 2
- If it will not start Version 2.0.1 and town progress are required
- Main goal Befriend Pumpkaboo, gather candy, attract Gourgeist
Start with the update and town requirements
Before looking for Pumpkaboo, check your progress: the game must be on version 2.0.1, you must have rebuilt a Pokémon Center, and you must have completed an important request in a town. You also need to have learned Camouflage from Zorua in Bleak Beach. Check the version from Options on the HOME Menu before looking for Pumpkaboo.
Set the Nintendo Switch 2 system date and time to the current real-world setting, then launch the game while connected to the internet. The first time you start the event, the console needs an internet connection. Nintendo says the event will not run if the system date falls outside its event window. The event is available from October 17 at 5:00 a.m. through November 1 at 4:59 a.m. local time, so the cutoff uses the clock where you play.
The launch trailer is a general look at Pokopia, released before Sweet Surprises. It does not show the Halloween event.
Get pumpkin candy from surprised Pokémon
Once the requirements are met, find Pumpkaboo near a rebuilt Pokémon Center and talk to it. Accept its request to befriend it and begin the event. The candy comes from the Camouflage activity: disguise yourself as furniture or another object that Pokémon like, then wait for an unsuspecting Pokémon to approach. Surprise it to earn pumpkin candy.
The official instructions describe the activity but do not give a fixed candy amount per surprise or a complete shopping list. Treat the candy as event currency and check the exchange in your own game for the furniture and decorations currently available. The Pokémon Company also confirms that you can trade the candy at the Pokémon Center for spooky items.
Make a habitat for Gourgeist
Use the exchange furniture and decorations to build a habitat that appeals to Gourgeist, Pumpkaboo’s evolution. When Gourgeist arrives, you can befriend it. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company both say befriended Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist stay in town after the event ends.
Check the habitat prompt in your own game before spending all your candy on decorations. Start with the exchange items you need for Gourgeist, then choose extras for your town. The event notice does not specify a complete item recipe or candy budget, so a fixed shopping total would be misleading. Leave time to finish the habitat and welcome its visitor before the event window closes.
For another Pokémon seasonal calendar, see our Pokémon GO Halloween event schedule. The events run in different games and use separate dates and rewards.
If Pumpkaboo or the event is missing
Check the prerequisites first. Camouflage must come from Zorua at Bleak Beach, a Pokémon Center must be rebuilt, and an important request in a town must be complete. Check that version 2.0.1 is installed, the system clock matches real time, and the console can connect to the internet for the event's first launch.
The event does not take place on Cloud Islands or in Bubbly Basin. Return to an eligible town before treating a missing visitor as a problem with your save.
If all of those are ready, Nintendo says to move to another town once or choose Save & Quit from the main menu, then return. That refresh step is listed for players who meet the requirements during the event period but still need the event to appear. If you are playing Link Play, use Palette Town and speak to Pumpkaboo for the event details before starting multiplayer. The event cannot be played in Spectator Mode.
