Sony's announcement discusses preorders from the store and participating retailers, but its auto-download instructions concern digital library content. A physical reservation should not be treated as proof that a digital licence has appeared on your account.
A USB drive can help you clear space
Sony links storage guidance from the announcement. Its USB extended storage support page says PS5 games can be moved to a compatible USB drive for storage, but must be copied back to console storage to play. PS4 games can run directly from USB extended storage.
For an existing library, that offers a way to move games you are not currently playing and keep the console's playable storage available. It does not mean GTA 6 can be played from an ordinary USB hard drive. Account for the copy back when you return to one of the stored PS5 games later.
If you are setting up a new drive, read Sony's formatting instructions first: formatting erases data already on that drive. Moving an installation and deleting saved progress are different actions. Check the selected storage category before removing anything merely to make room for a preload.
