Red Dead Redemption 3 does not officially exist. Rockstar Games has never announced it, named it or shown a frame of it. The public record is a 2021 conference appearance and a 2026 interview by Take-Two's CEO, plus one unverified 2023 social post. This page sorts each piece by what is on record.

Unconfirmed rumour
Everything on this page about a new Red Dead game is unconfirmed. Rockstar Games has made no announcement of Red Dead Redemption 3.
What Take-Two has said on the record
Take-Two's own financial release of August 7, 2026 covers the quarter to June 30. It lists the Red Dead Redemption series among the largest contributors to net bookings, next to NBA 2K and the Grand Theft Auto series. That sentence is about sales of the existing games. It does not mention a new title, and the release quotes CEO Strauss Zelnick only on the strength of the portfolio.

The most quoted line dates from December 2021, when Zelnick spoke at a conference. As GGRecon reported it, he compared Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead to long-running entertainment franchises such as James Bond, saying "If it's really, really great, it will keep going." He listed GTA, Red Dead and NBA as franchises of that kind. GGRecon's headline calls this confirmation of a third game, but the quoted words do not name one.
A publisher saying it wants a franchise to continue is a statement of intent, with no timeline, studio assignment or title attached. Zelnick also said that resting titles on purpose builds demand, so a long gap between games is part of the stated approach.
The 2026 development-speed comment
The newer talking point comes from an interview Zelnick gave to The Game Business, published on May 28, 2026. Asked about faster development, he said long cycles are not a lackadaisical approach and that some titles are simply complex. He added that recent developments in technology "will allow us to compress some development timelines" without hurting quality, and that Take-Two hopes to do that.
The question concerned Take-Two's slate as a whole, which includes 2K projects and Grand Theft Auto VI. Red Dead was not named. Player.one reported the comment on July 13, 2026 under a headline about raised hopes for a third game, but linking the two is that outlet's reading.
Unconfirmed rumour
Reading Zelnick's general remarks on shorter development timelines as a hint about Red Dead is the outlet's inference. In the interview as published, he did not name any new Rockstar game.
In the same interview he said Red Dead Redemption 2 has a very loyal and engaged audience. The Game Business reported that the game had its biggest sales year since launch and passed 85 million players, and Zelnick rejected the idea that this was driven by GTA 6 anticipation. A strong back catalogue shows demand for the series. It is not a sequel announcement.
Rockstar's release rhythm
Rockstar's big games arrive years apart. Take-Two announced pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI on June 24, 2026, with launch set for November 19, 2026. That is 47 days from October 3, and the company's attention sits there. Any later Red Dead project would follow in its own time, whatever its status today. Our GTA 6 release date guide covers what Rockstar has confirmed.

On September 4, 2023, PlayStation Universe reported that a Twitter account called @MyTimeToShineH claimed Rockstar was working on Red Dead Redemption 3, relaying coverage from Insider-Gaming. PSU links a 2023 post from that account, and says nothing had been corroborated by other sources and that the same account had recently claimed a Hogwarts Legacy sequel. We do not embed the post.
Unconfirmed rumour
Unconfirmed: an unverified social account claimed in September 2023 that Red Dead Redemption 3 is in the works. PSU reports that no other source corroborated it.
Unconfirmed rumour
Insider-Gaming's own guess, relayed by PSU in 2023, was that a new Red Dead was six to seven years away. That is speculation about timing, not a leaked date.
Why fans keep expecting it
Red Dead Redemption 2 is still a big seller, and an executive praising its audience is easy to read as a hint. Without a statement from Rockstar, each remark is one data point that general company optimism can explain. Fan theories built on developer profiles or internal project names have no confirmation from Rockstar.
Frequently asked questions
Is Red Dead Redemption 3 confirmed?
No. Rockstar Games has not announced it, and the Take-Two remarks reported so far describe franchises continuing in general terms.
When could Red Dead Redemption 3 release?
There is no official date or window. Any year you see quoted is a guess by an outlet or a fan.
Did Take-Two say Red Dead is coming back?
Take-Two's CEO has said he sees Red Dead as a franchise that can continue, per GGRecon's report of a December 2021 conference. That is not an announcement of a new game.
Where will an official announcement appear?
Rockstar normally announces through its Newswire site and official social accounts. Take-Two's investor site carries earnings releases and webcasts.
What to watch
Three things would change this page: a post on Rockstar Newswire, a Take-Two earnings release or call that names a new Red Dead, or an official trailer. Until one appears, treat any article that says the game is in development as unconfirmed.
