Warframe: Tau is coming in December 2026 on all platforms. Digital Extremes' expansion preview introduces Fornax, a Sentient ring city, and Brysko, a detective-inspired Warframe accompanied by a Hound. The announcement gives a month rather than a specific launch day.
Returning players also have a nearer deadline: Epoch Operation: Taubound ends November 17. The expansion preview and that temporary operation share the Tau story, but they have different schedules. You can plan for December without overlooking the activity that is available now.
Fornax is the first stop in a larger system
The official Tau page places the expansion in a binary star system beyond the Origin System. Fornax is its initial focus, an orbital ring city where crime and a substance called Bloom have reshaped Sentient life. The city includes docks and slums around a casino.
Its enemies include the Fornax Drowners, a new Sentient faction. Hunra controls the city's criminal business, giving the reveal a local antagonist alongside the wider journey to Tau. The initial reveal concentrates on this city and its inhabitants.
Digital Extremes describes Fornax as the first of further destinations planned for later updates. The December window belongs to the announced expansion; it should not be read as a release date for every future area on the new Star Chart. The Origin System will continue developing alongside Tau.
The official TennoCon trailer offers a visual introduction to the expansion. It is earlier reveal footage, not a recording of the final December build:
Brysko brings a Hound and a detective theme
Brysko's preview leans into Fornax's underworld setting. His abilities include exploding Portau cards and Corecracker, an Exalted weapon. His Hound can help control enemies and assist him when a fight goes wrong.
The reveal describes Brysko's theme and abilities without supplying the final values needed to compare builds. Wait for the full ability values and acquisition requirements before spending resources specifically for Brysko. A short reveal cannot establish the strongest loadout or a reliable farming time.
The page also introduces a premium customization called a Chimera Skin. Keep that separate from the base Warframe when reading shopping or acquisition advice. The announcement's mention of a cosmetic does not mean buying it is required to use Brysko, nor does it supply a final price.
Digital Extremes repeated the December window in its October 30 announcement:
Portau and Perita expand the preview beyond combat
Portau is Warframe's original card game. It uses suits called Blooms, Cores, Moons and Suns, with tables in Fornax's casino. The reveal introduces a pastime inside the city, although it does not set out a complete rulebook or explain every reward attached to playing it.
The expansion page also revisits Perita. Its landscape has become a desert where Dazannah clans compete for scarce resources. Catulast, the son of a threatened clan's chieftain, seeks help from the Tenno. Players interested in quest connections may want to revisit the story before reading further character speculation.
Fornax and Perita give the expansion different settings, although campaign length and entry requirements remain open questions. Those practical questions need the launch requirements and final update notes.
Finish time-limited Taubound goals first
The Taubound page separates the operation from the permanent Tau Prologue. The prologue requires The Hex and The Old Peace. During the operation, players who have completed Vor's Prize can reach Eris without the usual Star Chart and Junction requirements.
If you are returning with limited play time, check your Codex progress and the operation exchange before choosing a goal. Our Taubound Moonflesh and access guide explains the temporary reward route. You can work on that deadline while leaving the permanent quest for another session.
Keep the December expansion window in a separate calendar entry from Taubound's November 17 ending. Digital Extremes has not named Tau's exact launch day.
