Eternatus returns to Pokémon GO through GO Pass: Dynamax Trails, during an event running November 16-23. The enormous Eternamax Eternatus also appears in Max Battles on November 21, but defeating that boss rewards Candy rather than a catch encounter.
If you want the catch encounter, follow the pass track as well as the battle schedule. Trainers who already caught Eternatus receive 100 Eternatus Candy in place of the pass encounter, according to the official reward list.
The pass is the route to an Eternatus encounter
The Dynamax Trails announcement lists an Eternatus encounter among the standard GO Pass rewards. Trainers receive the free pass automatically on November 16 at 10:00 a.m. local time, then complete pass tasks to earn GO Points and increase their rank.
The event allows one Eternatus catch. A Trainer who already has the earlier catch should expect the listed Candy replacement, rather than treating this as a guaranteed second Eternatus. The free track also includes event-themed Dynamax encounters, Stardust and Rare Candy.

What the Eternamax battles give
On November 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time, Eternamax Eternatus takes over the majority of Power Spots. Winning those battles gives large amounts of Eternatus Candy and Candy XL. The announcement explicitly says players cannot catch the Eternamax form after defeating it.
During that battle window, Power Spots refresh more frequently and give eight times the usual Max Particles. The collection limit rises to 2,400. Check your existing particle balance and the battle screen before setting out, rather than assuming the higher collection limit removes every participation requirement.
The week-long event also increases the number of active Power Spots. Event-themed wild catches can award Max Particles, but catches made with the Explorer Gadget or Pokémon GO Plus + do not qualify for that particle bonus. If you usually rely on automatic catches, plan to make these catches manually.
Check the earlier pass before buying Deluxe
GO Pass Deluxe: Dynamax Trails costs US$4.99 or the local equivalent, subject to regional availability. It adds rewards and faster progression. There is also a conditional free upgrade: the event notice says Trainers who claim Tier 1 rewards in GO Pass: Into the Wild get early access on November 14 at 10:00 a.m. local time and a free Dynamax Trails Deluxe upgrade.
The earlier Into the Wild announcement places that pass in the November 9-15 period. Its own Deluxe upgrade is separately priced, so do not mistake the later free-upgrade condition for a promise that every earlier paid benefit is free. Check which pass and reward tier the game shows before spending.
The Dynamax Trails wording refers to claiming Tier 1 rewards; it does not spell out that prerequisite's rank number on the later event page. Follow the condition shown in-game rather than substituting the later pass's rank-15 milestone or assuming simply receiving the earlier pass completes it.
This official post introduces the earlier event that the condition refers to:
Rank bonuses and the final claim deadline
Dynamax Trails has three major milestones. Rank 15 unlocks double catch Stardust. Rank 35 halves the Candy and Stardust needed to activate the Dynamax Cannon Adventure Effect. Rank 55 adds Candy and Candy XL from Max Battles. Each bonus requires reaching its milestone on the pass.
You can earn pass points until November 23 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Unlocked rewards then remain claimable until November 25 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Use that later window to collect earned items; it is not extra time to keep progressing through the track.
The separately named November monthly GO Pass has its own schedule and rewards. Keep its dates separate from Dynamax Trails when planning your claims. For current nearby activities, the Pokémon GO game page collects our event coverage.
